Welcome to the Shawffice hours scheduling page!
Instructions[edit]
- I hold drop-in office hours (when I plan to just be sitting in my office and you or anyone else can just stop by) as well as by-appointment office hours. In general, I can meet remotely or in-person.
- If you'd like a scheduled appointment, pick a date from the options below.
- Review the available slots for that date. Note that all time slots correspond to current US Central Time in Chicago, Illinois.
- Click the blue "edit" link next to the date.
- Delete the corresponding "«available»" and replace it with your name (no Guillemets needed).
- If there is something you hope I will read or prepare ahead of our meeting, please include a topic and share that information with me more than 1 full "business day" before the meeting via email. If you're meeting with me on a Monday, please try to share things by Friday.
- For remote meetings: Show up to your meeting with me in my office hours jitsi channel. If a password is required, it will be the name of the channel ("shawffice").
- For face-to-face meetings: Please note that I sometimes meet in my home office (at 1865 Sherman Ave inside the Faculty-in-Residence apartment within Willard Hall / Residential College) and sometimes in my faculty office (Frances Searle Building, Room 1-140). Weather and mobility needs of everyone involved permitting, I love to hold walking meetings. The weather by Lake Michigan can get rough, so if you're willing to walk, please let me know and try to dress/equip accordingly!

Current quarter (Winter 2026)[edit]
Winter 2026 Shawffice hours will be held Wednesdays in the range of 2:00-4:00pm (by appointment). In general, I plan to be physically present in my faculty office (in room 1-140 of the Frances Searle Building). I can meet you there or online in my Jitsi office. Please contact me ahead of time or indicate in the signup below which kind of meeting you prefer, so I have an idea where to look for you. Also, if you would like more detailed directions to my home office, please contact me about that too!
The Shawffice hours are by appointment and signups appear below. Appointments are 25 minutes. If you have a schedule conflict that makes the available appointments inconvenient, an urgent concern, or a matter that requires additional time, please contact me to schedule something different.
If these options do not work for you, please contact me to find another time.
In either location, please note that others may be there too. Don't worry, just come by and we'll sort it out.
