APSA - American Political Science Association

ASA - American Sociological Association or, more typically, its annual meeting held each year; less commonly, the American Statistical Association

CHI - (pronounced 'kai' not 'chee'). The Conference on Human Computer Interaction (CHI stands for Computer-Human Interaction). A division of the ACM (Association of Computing Machinery). 2017 Conference

CSCW - (pronounced as quickly as possible). The Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing. A division of the ACM (Association of Computing Machinery). Overview

DIS - Not only an insult in the 90s. Designing Interactive Systems. Operated by ACM CHI. 2018 Conference

IC2S2 - The International Conference on Computational Social Science

jitsi - (pronounced 'JIT-see'). An online meetings platform similar to Google Hangout. Jitsi Project Site

1AC - First Associate Chair. Boss of the review of an article. (Used in CHI, CSCW)

2AC - Second Associate Chair. Backup to the boss of the review of an article. (Used in CHI, CSCW, elsewhere)

Computers

Hyak - (pronounced 'Hi-yak'). Supercomputer at UW. See hyak.

Nada - Another computer at UW mainly for interacting with the Internet.

Asha - Another computer at UW mainly for working with Scratch data.

Things that used to be on the above list but are not so important

guix - (pronounced 'geeks'). GNU Package Manager, for team use on hyak.
