== Readings == [[Image:Kraut_and_resnick-bsoc.jpg|right]] Because I understand and remember the financial challenges of being a student, I've structured this course so there is no textbook for this class. There is nothing you will need to purchase. Everything we'll read in this class will either be freely available online or available through UW libraries. That said, we will end up reading a big chunk of this book: Kraut et al.'s '''Building Successful Online Communities''' which I will refer to as βBSOCβ in the syllabus. Here is the citation: :Kraut, Robert E., and Paul Resnick. Building Successful Online Communities: Evidence-Based Social Design. The MIT Press, 2012. {{avail-uw|https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/washington/detail.action?docID=3339407}} A digital version of the book is [https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/washington/detail.action?docID=3339407 available to UW students through UW libraries and ProQuest Ebook Central]. If you would like a paper copy, [https://mitpress.mit.edu/9780262528917/building-successful-online-communities/ MIT Press] sells the book for $35 as a paperback. [http://www.amazon.com/Building-Successful-Online-Communities-Evidence-Based/dp/0262016575/ Amazon] has a limited number of hardcover copies available, starting at $13 as of December 2021. They also have paperbacks starting at $15 and the Kindle version is $26. Wikipedia has [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:BookSources/9780262016575 this long list of possible book sources].
