Nate walked Mako and others through an introduction to using Spark on Hyak that includes both a description of how to use Spark for running jobs as well as how to import and update new data. It's long but it's worth a walk through. You probably want to do the rest of the setup things on this page first so you can follow along:

These will require access to Mako's <code>cdsc_only</code> video folder which requires a username and password.
