The impromptu list changes every quarter because it's generated by the students. You will submit 2 thesis statements. I review these and use them to build the list that everyone will speak from. I can't use every thesis submitted, but I try to include as many as I can. Please review the impromptu assignment description as this is an associated homework.
Procedure[edit]
The process is designed to build a common list of impromptu thesis statements. Here are the stages.
- You propose two thesis statements.
- I review the list and build a single list of about 50 thesis statements.
- I post the impromptu list on the website.at least a week before the speaking round begins.
- You don't know which two thesis statements will be on the slip of paper you draw, but there won't be a thesis that isn't on that list.
Note: No one in your section will speak on the same thesis. Once a topic is drawn in section, it's removed from the pool.
Requirements[edit]
Your two thesis statements must:
- deal with a UW issue
- include an agent and a mandate (as discussed in lecture)
